SHAUN MALONEY last night insisted he has no intention of quitting playing for Scotland after speaking to Gordon Strachan before his move to Chicago Fire.

The 32-year-old ex-Celtic ace has been one of Scotland's key performers in the European Championships qualifying campaign.

But he now faces a long trek across the Atlantic for every Scotland game after deciding to move to the USA and play for Chicago.

However, Maloney has stressed he will still be fully committed to the Scots.

He said: "I spoke to Gordon Strachan pretty early in January when I decided that this move was what I wanted.

"I spoke to him again a couple of days before I travelled over just for a second reassurance and there were no problems.

"He was actually very excited for the move and the new challenge.

"The national team means the world to me, it's a huge motivation, so it was good that I got the green light from him, there were no issues whatsoever with it."

Maloney is set to add to his 37 caps in March when Scotland face Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.
