SCOTLAND have had a few one-sided-matches at Hampden over the years and one game in particular in 1969 will be remembered fondly by the then Rangers centre-forward Colin Stein...

CRAIG DICKSON (Mauchline) In the Sixties there was an international match in which Scotland beat Cyprus by 8 goals to nil. Is it true that only one of the goals was not scored by a member of the old firm?

Perfectly true! The game you are referring to was a World Cup qualifier played at Hampden Park on May 17, 1969.

The odd man out was Eddie Gray of Leeds United, the other seven goals were scored by Colin Stein (4 goals) and Willie Henderson both Rangers, with Billy McNeill and Tommy Gemmell both Celtic scoring the other two.

JOHN WHYTE (Kilmaurs) On the day that Graeme Souness made his league debut as Rangers player /manager, losing to Hibs at Easter Road, who were Celtic playing?

On August 9, 1986, whilst Rangers were losing in Edinburgh, Celtic had a 1-0 home win over Dundee.

Mo Johnston scored the winning goal.

JOHN STEWART (Glasgow) In a recent discussion with an old friend, we had a difference of opinion about the crucial last day of the season encounter between Hearts and Kilmarnock at Tynecastle to determine the League title in 1965. I was of the opinion that the Kilmarnock goalkeeper was Campbell Forsyth whereas my friend is convinced it was Bobby Ferguson. Can you clarify who was in goal on the title winning day and also confirm the rest of the Kilmarnock team.

The bad news for you is that it was Bobby Ferguson in goal for Killie that day. Campbell had been the first choice goalkeeper for most of the season but Bobby held the jersey for the last seven league games.

The Killie team that day was: Bobby Ferguson, Andy King, Matt Watson, Eric Murray, Jacky McGrory, Frank Beattie, Tommy McLean, Jackie McInally, Bertie Black, Davie Sneddon (now M.B.E. ) and Brian McIlroy.

Goals from Sneddon and McIlroy ensured Kilmarnock's 2-0 victory which gave them the League title for the first time on goal average as both teams had the same points total.
