GORDON STRACHAN has called on his players to conclude a perfect double when they face England tonight.

The Scotland boss is still on a massive high after the Euro 2016 qualifying tie victory over the Republic of Ireland on Friday.

Strachan can also sense the feelgood factor coursing through his squad after that impressive performance. And he wants them to provide an encore as they bring the curtain down on the international year.

The win over the Irish came amid huge expectation, and Strachan now wants his players to enjoy tonight's game.

But the man who won 50 caps and knows all about the special occasion any meeting between the Auld Enemy provides reckons this friendly comes with its own unique pressures.

Which would make avenging the defeat at Wembley in August last year all the sweeter. Strachan said: "It would make the perfect few days for us if we could come away with a victory tonight to add the result and performance on Friday.

"But we have to acknowledge England have some terrific players. The value of their squad and the value of ours, well, you can't compare it."

However, the big difference is that, for all the individual talent England have at their disposal, they are constantly criticised for failing to achieve as a team.

Scotland, under Strachan, are the polar opposite, recognised as not having the most gifted group of players in our nation's proud history, but collectively delivering results and performances which give their fans pleasure - and hope.

Strachan said: "I am more content with the squad now. It is a more rounded squad than it was two years ago. We are stronger in more areas now, that's for sure."

This has manifested itself in Scotland stringing together an impressive series of results and making a serious challenge for qualification for France 2016.

However, Strachan insisted the hard work and progress has to be maintained if Scotland are to stay on course for their first finals since 1998.

The race resumes in March next year, and Strachan does not want to sign off for 2014 with a negative result against our oldest opponents.

The manager said: "I am okay if we get beat, but the performance is right and everybody has been good.

"I would really be annoyed if it was a bad performance. No, I wouldn't be annoyed, I would be disappointed."

Strachan will finalise his line-up and announce it to his players a few hours before kick-off. David Marshall has declared himself recovered from the groin problem which threatened to rule him out, but Craig Gordon looks set to play at least part of the game to end his four-year absence from the national team.
