BILLY STARK has warned his Scotland hopefuls they won't be selected for international duty if they are not playing club football.

The Under-21 boss named his squad for next month's friendly with Hungary at Tannadice yesterday morning and has handed first call-ups to St Mirren duo John McGinn and Sean Kelly.

Celtic kids Joseph Chalmers, Stuart Findlay, Marcus Fraser and Callum McGregor have also been named.

And Stark has stressed the importance of first team football for those aiming to get in the squad for the Euro qualifier with Holland in May.

He said: "If you look at the ones who are missing - like Fraser Fyvie and Dylan McGeouch - they've not really been playing. You're always impressing on them that they need to be on loan and getting games.

"This is a chance to reward some of the young ones who have been doing well up here and playing regularly like McGinn, Craig Slater and Sam Stanton.

"Plus, as 1994s, they're eligible for the next campaign as well.

"That's what you try to use these games for, plus it will be good preparation for the Dutch game. Andy Robertson has gone up to the big squad and his rise has been meteoric.

"You can't say he doesn't deserve it and you have to take your hat off to Gordon Strachan for having the courage to select him ahead of the more popular choice in Lee Wallace."

While Stark's squad are already midway through their qualification campaign, Strachan's full squad have only just found out who stands in their way as they look to secure a place at France 2016.

The Scots are likely to battle it out with Poland and the Republic of Ireland for second spot in the group, but Stark insists Georgia can't be discounted in Group D.

He said: "They're good athletes and they have that thing the Serbians and Croatians have too - a fantastic national pride.

They're all things we're going to have to cope with. I would hope at home we'd be able to see them off.

"But out there will be a tough game. Not just for us either but for Ireland and so on.

"You'd have preferred a Russia or a Greece in that group where you'd feel you have a chance of beating them at home.

"But with the Germans you don't really get that feeling."
