REX IMPERATOR should appreciate the switch back down to six furlongs in the Farmhouse Cheshire Handicap at Thirsk.

The six-year-old was good enough to win the Stewards' Cup in 2013 but has failed to match that achievement subsequently so his mark has now dwindled from 110 to his current perch of 83.

He was highly tried last term though, running in Group One company on a couple of occasions, but he clearly was not up to that level and connections decided to freshen him up with a move to David O'Meara this season.

Rex Imperator did not really shine in his first couple of outings but he has shown signs of a renaissance, firstly when third over seven furlongs at this track late last month before notching a fair fourth at York, again over that trip, last time out.

Seven furlongs is probably not his optimum distance and he ran out of gas on the Knavesmire after taking a keen hold in the early stages.

A return to six furlongs makes sense here and off his lowest ever mark, Rex Imperator makes plenty of appeal.

Gavlar is the pick in Kempton's 32Red On The App Store Handicap after landing a decent event at Goodwood on his most recent outing.

Having previously finished third at that venue, William Knight's runner stepped up a gear to see off Teak by a neck despite wandering a little bit in the finish.

The runner-up has since gone on to finish third at Royal Ascot so the form has a pleasingly strong appearance.

Arthenus can shed his maiden tag in the 32Red Casino Handicap.

Third behind a fair type from Sir Michael Stoute's yard on his seasonal bow, Arthenus again claimed minor honours at Newmarket earlier this month.

A maiden win may have been beyond him, but a starting mark of 85 gives him every chance in the handicap sphere.

Brazen Spirit can strike gold in the Bluefin Supporting Carers Centre Handicap at Bath.

Mustadrik can make the journey from Gordon Elliott's Irish yard pay in the Visit Beautiful Perth Handicap Hurdle at the Scottish track, while Waterlord is the choice in the Francis of Malvern, Furniture Beds Flooring Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Worcester.
