LEAGUE-winning former Glasgow favourite Josh Grajczonek has been revealed as the first rider for next month's inaugural Peugeot International Speedway Championship.

The 25-year-old Australian, who races for Somerset Rebels in the Premier League and Belle Vue Aces in the Elite League, began his career with the Tigers and helped the club to the 2011 title.

Grajczonek is a formidable and exciting force around Ashfield and has already appeared at the track three times this season as a guest, most recently on Sunday when he was beaten just once in Glasgow colours.

He will start among the favourites to take the championship, which has a £10,000 prize fund.

Grajczonek said: “I always enjoy coming back to Glasgow and this is where I started. I jumped at the chance to do it.

“It’s going to be a good line-up as well, so I’m really looking forward to it.

“We don’t really think of the money – you go to win meetings like that because you get bragging rights.

“I’m sure Glasgow will put a good line-up together because they’re putting good prize money up for grabs. I’m hoping they get a good crowd, too.”

Grajczonek is also keen to get one over any fellow-countrymen who line up in the meeting.

He added: “Off the track we’re all good, but when you put your helmet on you always try and outdo each other. I’m looking forward to having a good race against some of them.”

The meeting is on Sunday, August 16, and the next man to be added to the line-up will be revealed later this week.
