SOLOW may not be the most innovative choice for the Qatar Sussex Stakes but the absence of Gleneagles makes the French raider incredibly hard to oppose at Goodwood.

The dual Classic winner would surely have proved a worthy adversary for Freddy Head's Solow, but the French raider now has 3lb or more in hand on each of his eight remaining rivals and should certainly thrive on the likely easier conditions on the Downs.

Solow is on a seven-race winning streak, dating back to last August when he was switched back from middle-distance and staying trips to a nine furlongs in a minor event at Clairefontaine.

The drop in trip has proved the making of the five-year-old and after bagging Group Two and Three victories last term, he is seeking a Group One four-timer here.

His defeat of The Grey Gatsby in the Dubai Turf at Meydan in March bears the closest scrutiny, while subsequent Prix d'Ispahan and Queen Anne Stakes wins show he is the one to beat at around the mile mark.

The unique Goodwood course is something of a question mark, but his class should see him through.

The Downs track can catch out a runner or two but it will come as no surprise to Highland Reel in the Neptune Investment Management Gordon Stakes after his win at this meeting last year.

His Vintage Stakes success was one the performances of the 2014 fixture but he did not run again until the French 2,000 Guineas in May, when he proved very disappointing and quickly dropped out of contention.

Sent back to France for their Derby, he performed much better in finishing second to New Bay and a step up to a mile-and-a-half looked sure to suit.

However, Jack Hobbs more than had his measure in the Irish Derby when he tried to come from way off the pace but just did not have the necessary acceleration.

The competition is not quite so hot here and Highland Reel is capable of better than he showed last time.

King Of Rooks can regain the winning thread in the Fairmont Molecomb Stakes.

His five-length defeat of Buratino in the National Stakes back in May reads very well indeed given that horse's subsequent achievements, and King Of Rooks was duly sent off favourite for the Norfolk at Royal Ascot.

However, he could not dominate in Berkshire and eventually had to settle for third, but he can bounce back here.

Air Squadron takes a steep hike in trip in the Victoria Racing Club Goodwood Stakes but Ralph Beckett's gamble can pay off.

Winner of his last three starts, he has shown up well over two miles before but the extra five furlongs here is something of an unknown.

He is in excellent heart though and his restrained style of racing gives him every chance of staying the distance.

Al Dallah can give Qatar-based handler Jassim Al Ghazali a first British success in the EBF Stallions Median Auction Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Leicester.

Formerly with Charlie Fellowes, the Footstepsinthesand filly has shown up well in her last two outings and looks primed to make a winning start for Al Ghazali.

Wardat Dubai is the pick in the Pinnacle Racing Syndicate Shares Available Now Handicap at Redcar while Perfect Orange can strike gold in Sandown's Unibet Offer Early Prices By 9am Fillies' Handicap.

Rule The World can take star billing on the third day of the Galway Festival with victory in the feature thetote.com Galway Plate.
