Teenage star Lydia Ko has been tipped to win a host of Major titles but the world No 2 admitted she’d be happy with just one after firing herself into contention at the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Turnberry.

The 18-year-old posted a six-under 66 over the Ailsa Course to sit just a shot behind early pacesetter Hyo Joo Kim.

Ko, who has 11 titles to her name, has yet to make her Major breakthrough but the 18-year-old could still become the youngest player to win one of the Grand Slam events on the women’s scene.

She said: “I try not to think about it. I’ve always said it (the Major win) doesn’t need to come now. My goal is hopefully to win one in my career. It’s tough to do when you’re among the world’s best players.”

At the Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship at Muirfield, Glasgow’s George Burns dumped top seed Grant Forrest on his way into the last eight.

The Williamwood ace beat the 2012 champion 4&3 before booking a quarter-final place with a two hole win over Leven’s David Mitchell.

Haggs Castle’s Barry Hume, the 2001 winner, and Douglas Park’s Angus Carrick also made it to the last eight.
