ANDY Murray’s US Open campaign will begin with an awkward assignment against the controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios. The World No 3, who has been more supportive than most to the 20-year-old during his eventful career to date, overcame Kyrgios in straight sets in the early rounds at Roland Garros, but meeting him at the first time of asking at Flushing Meadows gives him little time to acclimatise to the event. The native of Canberra was recently handed a 28-day suspension over comments towards French Open champion Stan Wawrinka regarding his girlfriend Donna Vekic.

As it happens, Wawrinka is a potential quarter final opponent for Murray, with Roger Federer – who overcame him in the Cincinnati final – also in the same half of the draw. The Scot's friend and fellow Brit, James Ward, could await in the third round. Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal, who staged an epic quarter final in Paris earlier in the year, could once again meet in the last eight of a Grand Slam.
