Scott Jamieson has edged himself towards European Tour safety after the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – but the Glasgow golfer will still face a tense end to the season.

While Danish youngster Thorbjorn Olesen captured the third Tour win of his career with an 18-under 270, Jamieson finished in a share of 33rd on a nine-under aggregate after a closing two-under 70 at the Old Course.

That earned Jamieson a cheque for over £23,600 and moved him up six places on the European circuit’s money list to 101st.

At the start of the championship, the Cathkin Braes man was sitting in 107th spot on the rankings and was perilously close to the danger zone with only the leading 111 retaining their full playing rights for next season.

In the fight for survival, every little helps and with just the British Masters, the Portugal Masters and the Hong Kong Open left on the regular schedule, Jamieson will be aiming to pull himself away from the Tour’s trapdoor and safeguard his place at the top table.

Jamieson’s fellow Glaswegian, Marc Warren, was a non-mover on the European Tour’s hit parade after a share of 38th in the Dunhill event. The 34-year-old stayed at No 17 on the money list and is already guaranteed a spot in the lucrative, end of season Final Series.

At the head of the field, Olesen propelled himself into the top 25 on the Race to Dubai with a two shot win over American duo Chris Stroud and Brooks Koepka.

The 25-year-old had been battling to save his Tour card coming into the event but the first prize of £523,207 has turned his season around.

Olesen, whose campaign has been hindered by a series of niggling injuries, said: “It’s been a very tough year for me. As the season goes on, you start thinking about it (losing your card) and I knew I had to do something good in the last three events. It’s just nice to get it over a done with here. It was pretty emotional for me.”
