ANDY MURRAY survived a third set scare from Bernard Tomic to progress into the Australian Open quarter-final this morning.
The Scot looked unstoppable for much of the encounter on Rod Laver arena with the home favourite, moving into a two-set lead relatively comfortably.
However, the world No.2 was made to fight for his progression in a keenly-contested third, with a tie break needed to see Murray through to his seventh-straight quarter-final in Melbourne, winning 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4).
"It was a tough match. Both of us had our chances," said Murray, who will now play David Ferrer. "He fought right to the end and made it very tough for me."
The British No.1 has had to contend with off-court distractions in the last few days. While wife Kim is at home expecting their first child within the coming weeks, his father in law Nigel collapsed on the adjacent court on Saturday morning.
"The last few days were very tough," said Murray. "A lot of emotions and things changing all of the time in my head so it has been stressful, but it's been good to get through today."
