GLASGOW scored an emphatic win over their biggest rivals - but captain Aaron Summers insisted: there's plenty more to come.

The Tigers beat Edinburgh Monarchs 56-37 in the Scottish derby to kick off their League Cup campaign in style.

It was the club's biggest win over the reigning champions for some time and a huge confidence booster as each rider bagged at least a paid win at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.

Had it not been for some more bad luck on the machinery front, the margin could've been even bigger.

Summers, top-scorer for the Tigers, believes that the new-look team will get better yet.

He said: "We didn't know what the track was going to be like with the weather but it held out well - probably better than last week with a bit more dirt on it.

"Everyone is chipping in - it's not just our top four that are banging in the points, it's throughout the 1-7. That's what we need - back-up right through. There's definitely more to come as track conditions aren't ideal and as it dries out, it'll be sweet.

"I think that first meeting has shown what we can do, and the boys are going to get better - hopefully more and more points will come in.

"For Nike Lunna, Coty Garcia and Danny Ayres it's definitely a confidence boost. Danny is pulling off some really good races and moves, and not just winning from the start, he is making passes. Meetings like this are massive boosts for these guys.

"We try to help all the boys with lines and how to ride it. There are certain little styles that me and Richard Lawson know work around here.

"I think we carried a few people last year and that held us down a bit, whereas this 1-7 is helping to bang them in and that's helping a lot."

It was Ayres and Garcia who raised the roof the most - as both produced brilliant round-the-boards passes in the middle of the meeting to keep the momentum going in the home side's direction.

Lunna suffered some more bad luck as heat one was pulled back after he'd got the jump over impressive visiting No 1 Sam Masters, with the latter winning the re-run.

He then ended up on the deck in his third race, after the Monarch's Jye Etheridge came to grief, but both walked away from their nasty-looking spills on the fourth bend.

Team GB star Ben Barker had some misfortune of his own - he was leading heat 14 on the way to his first full win for the club when his chain went on the final bends, and he had to trundle home for a point.

The result gives Glasgow three points, although they now face a 12-day wait for their next fixture, away to Edinburgh.

Tigers scorers: Aaron Summers 13, Richie Worrall 11+2, Richard Lawson 8+1, Ben Barker 7+3, Danny Ayres 7+1, Coty Garcia 6, Nike Lunna 4+2.
