Kirkhill golfer Lewis Irvine is looking to use his run to the final of the Scottish Boys Championship as a springboard to success this season.

The 16-year-old was beaten 2&1 by Edinburgh’s Eric McIntosh in Saturday’s keenly contested 36-hole final at Murcar but the Glasgow teenager was remaining upbeat after a string of impressive performances in the north east.

Irvine, the junior champion at Kirkhill for the last three years, said: “I’ve still got two more years at this tournament so you never know what will happen in the coming years. I’ll look to play all the Boys Order of Merit tournaments this season and try to keep my name up there after this.”

Irvine had won the opening two holes of the morning’s first round but McIntosh eventually seized the initiative even though he had to wait until the 35th hole to finally kill of Irvine’s spirited challenge with a putt off 15-feet for a title-winning birdie.
