Six Glasgow swimmers are set to take part in this week’s British Swimming Championships at Tollcross International Swimming Centre .

The City of Glasgow Swim Team members will go head to head with some of the best swimmers in the country at the British Swimming Championships , which take place just four months ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Among those taking part will be Camilla Hattersley, 21, who will compete in the Women’s Open 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle events.

Ross McCafferty, 23, will star in the Men’s Open 100m and 200m backstroke, while Chris Lowther (20) will race in the Men’s Open 1500m freestyle.

Ryan Brown, 18, will be in action in the Men’s Open 100m and 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley.

At a junior level Anna Fleming, 15, will compete in the Women’s 50m and 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly, with Grant Henderson, 17, who is also a pupil of Glasgow School of Sport set to race in the Men’s 50m and 100m freestyle.

They will join former City of Glasgow swimmer Robbie Renwick and Glasgow-born Michael Jamieson who will be hoping to be among the medals at the Championships.

City of Glasgow Swim Team Performance Coach Ian Wright, said: “The British Championships take place just a few months ahead the Rio Olympic Games and there will be great interest throughout the swimming world in how the British team will potentially line up.

“To have the meet in Glasgow is a fantastic boost for our swimmers who will be able to focus on their races without having to worry about travel, hotels and finding restaurants to eat in.

“Camilla Hattersley will start as a strong contender in the women’s freestyle events, while Ryan Brown, Anna Fleming and Grant Henderson will all be looking to impress the national junior team selectors for various competitions coming up this summer. The club is in excellent shape right now, confidence is high and there is a definite feeling among the team that we are a team on the up.”

The inclusion of the City of Glasgow Swim Team members at the British Swimming Championships comes just one week after the club finished third at the Scottish National Age Group Championships, winning 50 medals in the process.
