BRILLIANT Ben Barker brushed round the boards in a stunning late display to help Glasgow to their first Premier League win.

The Englishman produced some fearless moves against Redcar Bears as he found form in the second half of the meeting at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium.

Team-mate Richard Lawson went unbeaten, while captain Aaron Summers dropped just one point to an opponent, as the Tigers ran out 51-39 winners.

Barker took a few races to get going but ended his day with three wins.

The Team GB ace - who switched bikes during the meeting - said: "I've got loads of stuff going on at the moment so it was nice to get out there and get three race wins in the end.

"I thought I'd try the other bike - I hadn't ridden it here yet. I didn't enjoy it so I jumped onto what we had been riding, and it seemed to be working a bit better.

"I'm spending thousands and thousands of pounds on new equipment and just trying to get it so that it's working right. We'll keep going until we do. I was struggling for two rides and couldn't get into it - I don't know what was wrong. But I managed to click and I was away.

"I like racing around the boards. I enjoy it and it's exciting for the crowd - that's the way I do it."

The highlight was Barker's battle with Jonas B Andersen in heat three, when the visitor seemed to push his opponent close to the fence, riling the Tigers man even though he got the better of Andersen in the end.

Barker added: "That's just the way racing goes but you don't let that get the better of you. You just rise to it and fight harder."

And having helped Glasgow secure three league points, he said: "When we do click, the poor team that has us us is going to get a fair walloping. That's what it's about is getting it all together, get Richie Worrall back and give someone a proper tanking.

"I've never won the league so this year's the one."

The home team's Danny Ayres, Nike Lunna and Coty Garcia had a mixed afternoon - although the latter two both gained at least a paid win. The duo also crashed out on separate occasions but walked away unscathed.

Redcar were within four points of Glasgow right up until heat 13 when Lawson and Summers combined for a 5-1, a feat they repeated in heat 15 to ensure the Bears went home empty-handed.

Next up for the Tigers are fellow title contenders Peterborough Panthers next Sunday.
