ARGENTINE ace Coty Garcia helped Glasgow hit 60 against Redcar - then insisted the score could've been even bigger.

The 21-year-old was named rider of the match as he bagged two impressive wins and a third in the 60-29 win in the first leg of their KO Cup tie.

He was disqualified from his first race after he was deemed to have caused team-mate Danny Ayres to fall, with the latter limping away from the incident.

But he returned to blast round top Bears men Jonas B Andersen and Lasse Bjerre in his next two heats before being squeezed out of the running to win his final race.

Garcia said: "I was consistent through the heats. In the last one I made the gate but my front wheel lifted in the middle of the corner and it was really close with Ben Barker - so I shut the throttle and the other guy took advantage of that.

"I had the speed all day. My engine was back from a service and that was making the difference after I didn't score well at Sheffield and Somerset - so I am quite happy.

"It's a good score, and it could've been even better - but we have a really good advantage. We must see what happens in the second leg.

"When the averages change next, I think I will be at No 2 in the team, so I am working hard to be a strong No 2. My confidence is going higher and higher that is a good thing."

On the heat two incident with Ayres, he added: "We are both the reserves and we both have plenty to learn from. I feel sorry for him and for me for the exclusion - it has cost me points - but we will just move on."

Each of the home riders had a heat win as the Tigers once again proved impressive on their home patch.

The only major challenger in the opposition camp was former Glasgow man David Bellego - the Frenchman winning two races and denying both Richard Lawson and Aaron Summers of maximums by winning heat 15.

Glasgow travel to Redcar for the second leg on Thursday - with Edinburgh awaiting the winners.

Tigers scorers: Richard Lawson 13+1, Aaron Summers 11+3, Ben Barker 9, Richie Worrall 8+1, Coty Garcia 7, Nike Lunna 6, Danny Ayres 6.
