KATHERINE GRAINGER has become the most decorated female British Olympian ever after winning a silver medal in the women's double sculls alongside Victoria Thornley.
The 40-year-old from Glasgow narrowly lost out on gold to Poland after leading until there were only 200 metres remaining, but has secured her fifth Olympic rowing medal.
Grainger came into the race as the defending champion from London 2012 and also won silver medals in the Games in Sydney, Athens and Beijing.
Her five-medal haul takes her ahead of swimmer Rebecca Adlington in the list of Britain's most successful female Olympians.
