UFC 203 saw Scotland's Joanne Calderwood handed a first-round loss via guillotine choke from Jessica Andrade, but the card doesn't tell the whole story of Joanne's weekend.

A small gesture from the 29-year-old mixed martial artist went a long way towards making her impact felt outside of the Octagon in Cleveland.

While walking on the street with a friend prior to fight night, the pair met a homeless man named Robert Butler, who impressed them with his humor and quick wits. In fact, his first impression was so strong that Joanne told Butler she would leave him a ticket to the sold-out event.

It was a touching act of kindness that was ultimately answered with another, this time from Butler.

After her loss to Andrade, a presumably dejected Joanne found a note waiting for her as she checked out of her hotel.

The note said: "Dearest Jovon, although you lost the fight you will always be a winner in life! You are a rare and unique person. Kind, sweet and nonjudgemental. I wish you well in all that you do. I will never forget you!"

Joanne said that even though he got her name wrong she likes the name Jovon.

The note made her day.
