DANNY Ayres has revealed how he's spending all his earnings on preparing himself for a big finish to the season with Glasgow Tigers.

The Ashfield hero could win a clutch of trophies in his debut year in the Premier League as the Tigers bid for a league and cup treble.

Their run of crunch meetings starts this Sunday when facing Workington Comets in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Ayres - who also rides for Kent in the National League - has been the busiest man in Britain of late, racing an incredible nine times in 10 days, scoring almost 100 points across the two tiers.

Now he's had a brief rest before preparations begin for his next batch of meetings as he bids to overcome a frustrating night in Glasgow's win in Cumbria at the weekend.

He said: "Saturday was my first time at Workington. Before I went out, my clutch felt nice in my hand - and I had all the ingredients I need and enjoy, including dirt on the starts.

"But I couldn't make a start for love nor money. I didn't realise but my springs had gone off, and it ruined my night.

"I am getting more confidence again, though, and I do believe I'm banging on the door. I'm putting Workington behind me and I've come home and addressed the problem.

"I've been out and bought a completely new clutch - so all the money I've earned in the last nine days has gone into that - because I'm giving myself the best chance to deliver for my teams in the play-offs.

"It's very exciting but I don't want to make the numbers up and that's why I've gone and spent money. If it solves the problem I'll spend the same again on my other bike and deliver for these teams that have put so much effort into being where they are at this point of the season."

The Tigers' return leg against the Comets is a week on Saturday, while they'll also face Somerset over two legs next Friday and Sunday in the KO Cup. Their league play-off opponents have yet to be determined.

Ayres said: "I am confident about Sunday and I won't turn up to score two or three points - I'll be there to make a difference.

"At Workington the boys were on fire. We've been a unit all season - we had the disruption half-way through with Rene Bach coming in but we're all settled now - and it's just a pleasure to be in the pits with them.

"All I want to do is help this team to be on top and win every title - and I'll do everything in my power to achieve it."

Under-15s can attend Sunday's meeting free of charge when admitted with a paying adult, by collecting a ticket from the Den Diner any day leading up to the match.
