AARON Summers sat and picked through the pieces of the result.

His Glasgow Tigers team had just been demolished by their closest rivals in their first cup final since their £2 million rejuvenation - their fairytale was grinding to a halt.

That was just 12 months ago, when Glasgow fell to Edinburgh in the League Cup final. A few weeks later, history repeated itself in the Premier League play-off final.

But Summers and co. have the chance to exorcise their demons of October 2015 this Sunday as they face Somerset in their second League Cup final in two seasons.

And that's exactly what the Australian plans to do as he bids to kick-start a new golden era of speedway at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium - as long as they seal their place at Workington on Saturday.

He said: "Last year's final was devastating. It does play on your mind – you look back and think, could I have done anything differently? Will we get another chance to win it?

"When it came against our biggest rivals too, that was hard to take. It made things even worse for me when I crashed out of the league play-off final, just when we looked like we could do something.

"But that just makes us more determined. It was only me and Richard Lawson in that team, so we’re really hungry for success, but all of the boys are.

"We’ve worked so hard to get into these finals, so we want to finish the job. It would be awesome to give club owners Gerry and Michael Facenna some silverware. The amount of time and money they’ve put into the club is unbelievable and they deserve success.

"Money doesn’t automatically buy success, though, and that’s where it’s down to us seven guys on the track to produce the goods at the crucial time."

Summers insists there is no better part of the country to be watching the sport than the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium - with the club bidding to win an historic treble.

He said: "I think it’s fair to say that Glasgow speedway is the place to be at the moment. To be in two cup finals, and challenging for a third, is an amazing achievement and I can’t wait to line up on Sunday.

"I’m desperate to put last year to bed. We couldn’t be better placed to do that, but it’s going to be one hell of a fight to get there."

Sunday's first leg starts at 3pm, with the return taking place next Friday.

Glasgow are also at Edinburgh on Friday night to round off their Premier League fixtures.
