Clydebank ace Scott Henry survived the pressure of the European Tour’s six-round qualifying school marathon to earn a return to the golfing big time in 2017.
The 29-year-old, who lost his card for the main circuit in 2013, bounced back with a closing five-under 67 at PGA Catalunya for a 12-under 416 which left him in a share of second and comfortably among the 25 and ties who earned promotion.
Henry, who has been competing on the second-tier Challenge Tour for the past three seasons, said: “This was definitely the most pressure I’ve faced in golf. I just missed out on a play-off for the Johnnie Walker Championship on the main tour in 2013 and that’s the kind of pressure you want to be under. You want to be on the main tour, not here at q-school.
“No offence to the Challenge Tour, but I absolutely despise playing it and that was my biggest incentive for pushing on and getting my European Tour card.”
