Catriona Matthew is hoping to put on a show on home soil over the next fortnight and make a last ditch assault on a Solheim Cup call up.

The North Berwick veteran tees-up at Dundonald Links in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open this week before heading east for the RICOH Women’s British Open at Kingsbarns.

Matthew, a two-time winner of the Scottish crown, has endured a low key season on the LPGA circuit but the former Women’s British Open champ is eager to shine in two of the biggest events on the female front.

The 47-year-old is a European vice-captain for next month’s Solheim Cup match with the US but she has not ruled out making a ninth appearance as a player in the transatlantic tussle at Des Moines.

Matthew is well down the qualifying points list but, with four wild card picks, the Scot is looking to prove her worth to Euro skipper Annika Sorenstam over the next fortnight.

Matthew, who has not finished higher than 30th on the LPGA Tour this season, said: “It’s a big couple of weeks. Obviously results have been pretty poor for me this season and I need to produce something over this fortnight.

“At the end of the day, it comes down to results but a little bit of experience may help on my part. It depends on the make-up of the team.”

Matthew forms part of a stellar field competing in the Scottish showpiece with the line-up bolstered by 15 of the world’s top 25 players.

Glasgow’s Kylie Henry, a double winner on the Ladies European Tour, and Lanark’s Pamela Pretswell are also competing in an event worth £1.15 million.
