JACK Smith hopes he's turned a corner in his form for Glasgow and now wants to see his team do the same.

The Tigers reserve was a rare bright spark as the club suffered a 54-36 defeat at top side Sheffield on Thursday night.

The Scots were looking to pick up crucial points to reduce the gap between them and their Yorkshire rivals in the SGB Championship ahead of the end-of-season playoffs.

But despite keeping it tight early on, a late blast from the hosts sent them well clear in the match - and at the top of the league.

The sides meet again at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium on Saturday night in a match Glasgow must win if they're to stand a chance of overhauling Sheffield and getting first pick in the playoffs.

Smith bagged two second places in his first two rides, scoring paid six, in one of his best away showings of the season.

And after a similar performance for his Premiership side Belle Vue on Wednesday, he's keen to keep things running into the weekend - when Glasgow also face Peterborough away from home on Sunday.

Smith, 18, said: "We always knew it was going to be tough going to Sheffield. They're not on top for no reason, they've been winning home and away and have been really strong.

"It was always going to be a hard task, particularly without Dan Bewley and Nike Lunna.

"We kept them honest in the first few races, it seemed to be after heat 10 or 11 that they changed something on their bikes and they were just uncatchable.

"Come Saturday at our place hopefully we'll do the same as what they've done to us.

"I'm looking forward to that meeting - hopefully it'll be a home win against them, I don't see why it can't be.

"I don't see why we can't beat any team over two legs, we're strong at home. We've still got plenty of meetings to go, we just need to start getting wins away from home like we did at the start of the year."

The Englishman added: "I got two paid wins in my first two at Belle Vue on Wednesday, and picked up some more points, ending on paid seven - and then went to Sheffield and got five, paid six, including two seconds.

"I was challenging for first place in both those races and just couldn't make the pass.

"I hope this is the turning point in these last two meetings. Hopefully I can do the same on Friday at Belle Vue, then have a good weekend for Glasgow."

Mason Campton, guesting for Bewley, was Glasgow's only heat winner at Sheffield - heading home two races with a 10+2 haul.

The Tigers lacked firepower at the top of the team, with home heatleaders Josh Grajczonek and Kyle Howarth going unbeaten.
