SHEFFIELD Tigers produced a 17-point turnaround to stun Glasgow Tigers and leave their hopes of topping the SGB Championship in pieces.

The visitors bagged six heat advantages in the last seven races at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium to keep a lengthy unbeaten run going and all but ensure they'll get first pick in the end-of-season playoffs.

It was a huge collapse from the home team, who were comfortable with a 12-point advantage after eight races.

And with Sheffield fielding two junior riders because of injuries, it looked likely Glasgow would go on to win by a substantial margin.

But an inspired performance from Kyle Howarth in heat eight while on a tactical double put Sheffield back to within seven points of the hosts.

Visiting No 1 Josh Grajczonek then won heats 11, 13 and 15 to secure a 15-point maximum for himself and ensure his side left with a 49-44 victory and three points, despite effectively racing with a four-man team.

Glasgow manager Stewart Dickson admitted he was left scratching his head at the manner of his team's performance.

He said: "It was very disappointing - to be 12 up and lose by five - that's a 17-point swing.

"It's another collapse, the first time it's happened at home. I don't really know what to say.

"It's easy for me to claim it shouldn't happen but you look at what they had tonight - no disrespect to their guests - this is a bitter pill to swallow.

"We've been papering over the cracks for the last few weeks. We got away with it last week with Robert Lambert not being here for Newcastle, and we looked as though we were getting away with it again tonight with Sheffield's injuries to Lasse Bjerre and Todd Kurtz, and Josh Bates not being here.

"It's not one thing that's going wrong but I can't put my finger on it. Sheffield have come back into it and got a glimpse of something after the 7-2 which got them back into it.

"All of a sudden their riders become different animals and they've got something to race for.

"It shouldn't be happening at our track but it did. The run of home matches that was starting tonight, has started in the worst possible way with a defeat."

Sheffield are now 17 points ahead of Glasgow, who sit in third, with Ipswich splitting them.

The Tigers must try and pick themselves up for a busy run of meetings, starting with a tough trip to Peterborough on Sunday then home matches against Workington on Thursday and Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Glasgow scorers: Richard Lawson 11, Aaron Summers 10+1, Ryan Douglas (guest) 8+2, Richie Worrall 6+1, Tom Perry 6, Jack Smith 3, Nike Lunna R/R.
