Glasgow golfer Scott Jamieson is well aware that this weekend’s GolfSixes has an element of the hits and giggles about it.

But the 34-year-old is determined to get down to the serious business of pulling off a Scottish win at The Centurion Club.

Jamieson will partner fellow Scot, Richie Ramsay, in the six-hole greensomes format which sees 16 teams go head-to-head in the two-day competition.

Jamieson, whose best result on the European circuit this season is a share of seventh in the Tshwane Open in South Africa, is making his debut in the event alongside Ramsay who helped Scotland to a third place finish in the inaugural staging of the contest a year ago.

And with nearly £90,000 each on offer to the overall champions, Florida-based Jamieson is keen to savour the joy of six.

He said: “There’s obviously an element of fun to the weekend but we are still preparing as you would for any tournament.

“There’s an awful lot of money up for grabs and we want a piece of that. Hopefully we can go a bit further than Richie and Marc (Warren) did last time out. I watched a bit of this on the TV last year and I think it’s great for the game. Hopefully it can generate a kind of newer audience than we traditionally have.”

Rangers fan Jamieson was speaking just as Steven Gerrard was being unveiled as the new boss at Ibrox.

He added: “When someone first mentioned it (Gerrard coming) to me a couple of weeks ago, I thought they were crazy. As a fan I like to think that if he’s signed on the dotted line then there’s money coming from somewhere. It’s an exciting appointment.”

Jamieson and Ramsay face pairings from Ireland, France and Italy in today’s opening session of group games.
