ANDY MURRAY has cited fatigue as the reason for his withdrawal from the Italian Open just hours before his scheduled last 16 match against David Goffin of Belgium.
Murray appeared at a hastily=arranged press conference in Rome to state that he had decided to pull out of the event in the wake of his 6-4, 6-3 win over Jeremy Chardy of France on Wednesday.
The world No3 stated that "it didn't make sense for me to continue to compete".
Murray had won successive clay courts in both Munich and Madrid and had considered skipping the Italian event to keep himself fresh for the upcoming French Open.
