JONAS BJORKMAN will head up Andy Murray's coaching team for the first time at the BMW Open in Munich this week.

Murray revealed last month that Bjorkman would become the newest member of his team, and the Swede linked up with Murray and main coach Amelie Mauresmo for practice in Barcelona last week.

However, Mauresmo, who recently revealed she is pregnant, will not accompany Murray to Germany this week where he plays his first clay-court match of the season.

His opening tie is today when he partners Jean-Julien Rojer of Holland against Raven Klaasen and Lukas Rosol in the doubles.

Murray also revealed that only Bjorkman would accompany him on tour between Wimbledon and the US Open as Mauresmo is due to give birth in August.

He said: "After Wimbledon, providing everything's good, I'm going to spend the whole of the hard-court stretch through to the end of the US Open with Jonas. Then I'll see what happens with Amelie because I don't know, and I don't think she knows, what her priorities are going to be and how she wants to deal with things. So we'll just see for a few months."

Murray is looking forward to working more closely with the 43-year-old.

"We were on the tour for quite a few years together and I always got on very well with him," Murray added.

"As a coach, I don't know him that well, because we only spent a few days together in Barcelona last week. But he's a very calm guy.

"He has a good way about him. As a player, he had a very good work ethic. His mentality on the court was very good and he obviously has a lot of experience of singles and doubles, which is good.

"We'll see this week how it goes, but I get on well with him."

And former British star Mark Petchey believes Murray and Bjorkman will be a success.

He said: "As two people that I know personally ... I have absolutely no doubt they're going to hit it off in a big way. I'm sure they will have a very strong connection.

"If you look at Jonas' track record in everything that he's put his mind to, he has been pretty successful. I'm sure he's going to be exactly the same in this particular sphere of tennis.

"Jonas is a great guy, he's super funny. He's obviously going to have Andy's respect for what he's achieved."
