BISHOPBRIGGS veteran Robert Arnott captured one of the biggest titles of his long career last night when he won the Tartan Tour's P&H Championship at Dundonald Links.

The 50-year-old, who has competed on the domestic circuit for a quarter-of-a-century, produced a rousing late charge and birdied three of his last five holes to pip Graham Fox, Louis Gaughan and David Orr to the £6000 top prize by a shot.

Arnott, who also earned an extra £1300 as the top senior player in the field, reeled off birdies at the 14th, 15th and 17th in a closing four- under 68 for a 10-under 206.

Arnott is set for a new chapter in his career on the European Senior Tour this season and the former PGA Cup player is relishing life as a golden oldie.

He said: "The money earned here will certainly help me for the Senior Tour as I will be funding the campaign myself.

"I'm just delighted to have won. This is my sixth order of merit win and in some ways it summed up my approach to golf.

"I never give up and keep going to the end. I'm always trying to improve my game and I certainly feel that I am a better player now than I was 15 years ago."

Glasgow ace Orr, the former Scottish PGA champ, showed his class with a 67 to share second on a nine-under 207.
