SCOTLAND beat Wellington convincingly by 91 runs in their 50-over encounter in Lincoln, New Zealand.

The visitors put in an impressive performance in the penultimate game of their tour Down Under, which is serving as a warm-up for next year's Cricket World Cup.

After captain Preston Mommsen won the toss and chose to bat, Scotland racked up 277 for eight in their innings. Pick of their batsmen was Kyle Coetzer who compiled 66 runs, his third half-century in four tour games.

He put on 88 for the third wicket with Mommsen, who also sparkled with a fine 65.

In a late flourish, Freddie Coleman hit 39 before Craig Wallace bludgeoned 32 off only 12 balls.

Wellington's reply got off to a dismal start when former Ayr professional and New Zealand cap Michael Papps was clean-bowled by Safyaan Sharif for one of his two wickets.

Josh Davey and Majid Haq also claimed two victims apiece as the hosts were bowled out for only 186 in 46.2 overs.

Mommsen said: "It was a good win on the back of a few good performances from us on this tour.

"We had not been able to quite get over the line in the previous couple of games, so it was pretty important for us to get the win here. It is always nice to contribute personally but it was a good all-round team performance, particularly the way we finished the batting innings."

The captain also told cricketscotland.com: "Our bowlers did a brilliant job taking wickets early on to make it very difficult for them to stay in the chase.

"Our fielding was also impressive, probably the best of the tour so far. I'm very happy with the way the match went for us."

Meanwhile, Shane Watson has been named in Australia's squad for the T20 series against South Africa as he continues his comeback from injury.

The all-rounder has not played for his national team since the World Twenty20 in April. Watson, 33, suffered ankle and calf injuries in May after stepping on a ball in training. The series starts on November 5.
