I spoke about a food drive the team was hosting for the Renfrewshire Food Bank in my last blog and my coming off a fresh four game suspension. And what do you know I'm going to be covering the same topics; starting with the food drive.

Last weekend, the team held a canned food drive, which saw all the donations going to the Renfrewshire Food Bank.

The event was a huge success as it looked like all 3,000 members of the Purple Army brought a food parcel to the game. While the fellas were busy working on a 4-3 win over the dreaded Fife Flyers it was players' wives and girlfriends that were in charge of collecting all the food brought to the drop off station.

This was no easy task for the girls as they were going non stop collecting and than transporting the food from one end of the arena to the next. There was so much food that the girls not only missed most of the game but also were still moving all the parcels from the carts to our moving van when we got out of the dressing room (an hour after the game had ended).

The event proved to be a huge success and should feed many-a-hungry mouths; hopefully through the Christmas holiday. And with the success I would like to take this time to thank the partners, Braehead Clan, and most importantly the Purple Army for bringing a parcel along and taking care of their own community.

I was excited to be coming back from a four game suspension. It almost feels like a Groundhog Day scenario, as this time around I'm excited to be coming off a one game suspension.

The biggest difference this time around stems from the amount of controversy my one game suspension has elicited.

For those who don't know I was banned one game for, allegedly, crossing the redline and aggressively pushing a member of the other team during warm-ups.

This incident sparked both teams to come to the redline as some exchanged friendly words and others used the their sticks as cattle prodders against the other team.

The real controversy came because two little kids were skating the redline as a promotional scheme for the team. Before we go any further no child was touched or harmed during the altercation.

Both kids were clear of the shouting fest and were back skating on the ice for the Flower of Scotland anthem (with a cheeky grin on their face I might add). Due to the incident I was suspended one game and fined £500.

I'm not going to touch on whether I think the ban and fine announced by those awkward DOPS videos is right or wrong. What I am going to say is it's great to play for a community that takes actions for their players when they feel there players were wronged.

Immediately following the news of my fine members of the Purple Army reached out and said they were going to raise money on last Wednesday's game and this Saturday's game to cover my fine.

In fact, they just announced that a massive £483 was raised on Wednesday. With Saturday still to go both the Purple Army members and myself agreed that any money raised over the £500 goal will go towards our teams fundraising efforts for Diabetes UK and the SPCA Scotland. Thank you supporters, you are definitely one of the main reasons why I resigned for a team for the first time in my career.

This Saturday, has us facing off against the Coventry Blaze. This team is similar to our style as they have skill, grit, and character on their side. We'll be going into that game with the opportunity to not only pay them back for beating us in the last meeting, but with an opportunity to be sitting top of the leaderboard in the Elite League Standings if we win. What more motivation could you need?
