BRAEHEAD CLAN blew the chance to go top of the Elite League with only two games left to play.

With Sheffield Steelers leading the way by a single point going into the final two weeks, the Glasgow club knew they would need to rely on the Yorkshire cracks slipping up to have any chance of being crowned champions.

And despite Cardiff Devils keeping up their end of the bargain last night by shocking Sheffield 6-3, a Clan collapse in Edinburgh saw them go down 2-1 to the Capitals.

It means Ryan Finnerty's men cannot afford any slip ups this coming weekend in their game at home to Hull Stingrays or on their travels to Fife Flyers, while hoping Cardiff or Nottingham Panthers can again do them a favour by defeating the Steelers in at least one game.

If the Welsh outfit beat Sheffield again, Braehead will then have to hope someone beats them as they have an extra game to play while sitting just one point behind Clan and two off the Steelers.

Yesterday's loss at Murrayfield came as a shock to the Purple Army who had travelled through in large numbers.

Having only lost once to the Caps this term, Clan defeated them 5-1 at Braehead Arena on Saturday night.
