The Braehead Clan kept up their pursuit of the Elite League and Gardiner Conference titles with this convincing 7-3 win over Edinburgh Capitals.

Derek Roehl fired the home side ahead as he smashed the puck past Caps netminder Tomas Hiadlovsky inside the opening three minutes.

The visitors were awarded a penalty shot after Dennis Rix was impeded, but Kyle Jones denied the Capitals forward with the save.

A comical error led to a second for the home team as Leigh Salters bamboozled Hiadlovsky with his shot hitting the post. Stefan Meyer made sure with the follow-up.

Matt Keith made it 3-0, sending his shot in off the bar then Neil Trimm smashed his shot to make it four after Rix was robbed by Roehl.

Caps hit back with two goals either side of the first period break, with Rene Jarolin then Greg Collins halving the deficit.

Keith and Trimm each found the net for the second time on the night to restore the four goal advantage.

Then a howitzer of a shot from Jamie Fritsch made it 7-2 late in the third period with Daniel Naslund completing the scoring with Edinburgh's third.
