STARS from two tiers of British speedway will show what they're made of in Glasgow on Sunday as Ashfield hosts the Peugeot Open.

Seasoned campaigners in the Premier League - as well as some of the National League's up-and-coming hopefuls - will compete in the 15-heat meeting.

The event comes as the Allied Glasgow Tigers have a week off from competitive duty at home.

The riders will race it out over 12 heats before two semi-finals and a final.

Dimitri Berge and James Sarjeant will lead the home charge, and Edinburgh's Justin Sedgmen could stake a claim as one of the meeting favourites.

Alex Davies is likely to be in the mix as he represents Scunthorpe. Also taking part from the Premier League are Nicki Barrett of Workington and Berwick's Alex Edberg, while there's a place for former Plymouth rider Hynek Stichauer from the Czech Republic.

Visiting Glasgow from the National League will be four members of the Stoke team - veteran Jon Armstrong, the ever-improving Lee Payne, Chris Widman and Ryan Macdonald, who is from Glasgow and signed as a Tigers asset last week.

Completing the line-up is 20-year-old New Zealander Bradley Wilson-Dean, who rides for Eastbourne in the National League and is tipped as one of the next big stars of the sport.

Glasgow team manager Stewart Dickson, who helped put the line-up together, said: "It's a bit of a mix of riders, but it should be good.

"I'm looking forward in particular to seeing Bradley Wilson-Dean. He's a New Zealander with dual British nationality. Everybody has been looking at him for the future.

"It's only going to be £10 entry, so I'm hoping people will come out for it and that it's a decent day.

"Dimitri and James have got every chance of winning it and it'll be nice to see how they go in the individual meeting.

"We are trying to make it a fun day out, but it will be a serious competition at the end of the day."

The £10 price applies to adult tickets. For senior citizens, students and disabled people, entry is £7; it costs £4 for children aged 12-16, £1 for kids under 12 and kids under three go free. Season tickets are not valid.

The meeting starts at 3pm.

Before then, Glasgow will visit Edinburgh in the League Cup on Friday night.
