Go Far was out of luck at Doncaster last week but can enjoy his moment in the spotlight as he makes a return to action in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup tomorrow.

Alan Bailey's charge has made plenty of progress in the second half of the season - winning by five lengths at Yarmouth in July off a mark of just 79, before defying a 9lb rise to double up at Town Moor the following month. The four-year-old then rolled on to Wolverhampton where he proved equally at home on the Tapeta surface as he ably dealt with another 8lb hike to hold off Foxtrot Romeo and secured the penalty that sees him make the cut for the Scottish showpiece.

Bailey decided to chance his arm in the Portland first, but nothing really panned out in his favour as Go Far, who likes to come from behind, could not find room at the crucial point of the race.

He was never nearer than at the finish and while nothing was ever going to beat the winner Muthmir, he could well have been much better than sixth with some luck.

The recent dry weather is in Go Far's favour and he has a fair draw in stall 14.

Foxtrot Romeo also takes his chance at the Scottish venue in the William Hill Ayr Silver Cup and has sound claims judged on his Wolverhampton run.

Second in the Irish 2000 Guineas back in 2012, he once boasted a rating of 114 but had a string of lacklustre efforts for Johnny Murtagh before he was switched to the care of Marco Botti this term.

Botti also struggled to recapture his best but after falling to a perch of 88, he has been making progress again and posted a recent best behind Go Far when clearly appreciating a drop back to six furlongs.

He was a classy horse in his day and remains a possibly well-handicapped contender.

War Alert bounced back to winning form at Bath and she can start to live up to expectations in the William Hill Firth Of Clyde Stakes, while Sky Hunter can make it a fifth win in 11 runs for trainer Saeed bin Suroor in the William Hill 80th Anniversary Book Launch Doonside Cup Stakes.

Glorious Protector can pass the acid test and bag a first Group Three triumph in Newbury's Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup.

But he faces a tough assignment against the likes of Hillstar and Grandeur.
