BEARSDEN golfer Ewen Ferguson today set his sights on senior service after conquering all at a junior level.

The 17-year-old, who won the British Boys' title last season, claimed a notable double on Saturday when he beat Ben Kinsley 6 and 5 in the final of the Scottish Boys' Championship at West Kilbride in Ayrshire.

Ferguson, the first player to hold both crowns since Motherwell's Steven O'Hara in 1998, is now eager to step up the ranks and make his mark on the men's scene.

This season's British Boys' Championship takes place at Prestwick but Ferguson revealed he may have to surrender his title as he pursues new goals.

He said: "I have my targets for the season and I now want to move up to the senior level.

"Getting into the Scotland team for the Men's Home Internationals is a major aim.

"That takes place the same week as the British Boys' Championship. If I don't get into the Scotland team, then I might defend but I want to make a real push in the men's scene."

Ferguson had a stint at the Hilton Head Junior Golf Academy in the USA and the Scots teenager believes that spell across the other side of the Atlantic has left a lasting impression.

He added: "When I went to America at 15 the one thing that stood out was just how confident everybody was. Whether they were really good golfers or not, they were all talking about playing on the PGA Tour.

"Being over there, by myself, I had to kind of man-up and I think my confidence certainly grew in that environment."
