Roger Federer bounced back from a 6-1 second-set thrashing to win the Cincinnati Open with victory over David Ferrer.

The Swiss had won the first set 6-3 before being stunned by the Spaniard, but won the decider 6-2.

Serena Williams finished her last US Open tune-up in style by blowing away Serbian Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-1 to win her first title at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks brought their hunt for a starting point guard to an end by signing 6ft 2in JaJuan Smith.

Smith, who originally hails from Tennessee, has agreed to terms with the Rocks for the 2014/15 BBL season. He will be given the tough task of filling the shoes of recently retired EJ Harrison.

MOTOR-SPORT: Bathgate's Paul di Resta missed out on his first podium in this season's German Touring Car Championship by just 0.796secs at the Nurburgring.

The 28-year-old Scot, who started yesterday's 49-lap race in front of 80,000 fans from eighth on the grid in his Mercedes, gradually worked his way through the field to finish fourth. The race was won by BMW's Marco Wittmann.
