RACHAEL FERRIER has only just landed in Sochi and won't compete for another week, but she insists her Winter Paralympic debut is shaping up to be unbeatable.

The Kilmacolm girl knew before even flying to Russia that she would be making history as a guide to visually impaired alpine skier Millie Knight, who at 15 will become Britain's youngest Winter Paralympian.

However, it immediately got better upon landing as Knight was chosen to carry the British flag into the Fisht Stadium for today's opening ceremony.

Ferrier and Knight will have to wait until March 14 to actually compete in the first of their two events - the slalom first followed by the giant slalom two days later at Rosa Khutor Alpine Centre.

"The Paralympics is such a special event, it will be one of the biggest things I have ever done, but I'm just going to try and take it all in. The athletes' village is going to be fun," said the 18-year-old.

"We both get on really well and are always laughing together. The best thing about racing with Millie is having someone else to share it with when you win a gold medal."

Ferrier isn't the only Scot on the wider British team, with five making up the wheelchair curling quintet led by skip Aileen Neilson.

Leader of the team itself is Chef de Mission Penny Briscoe, a veteran of seven Summer and Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and she was quick to tip Ferrier and Knight to star on debut.

Ferrier only reunited with Knight after Christmas following an initial debut together last November and Briscoe said: "I think it's a really exciting team, it's a mix of first-time Paralympians and those who have been to previous Games. We've got some new and exciting girls who have come through reasonably late with the likes of Millie at 15 - what an incredible opportunity it is for her and Rachael."
