Braehead Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty says there's no-one to blame but themselves after going out of the Challenge Cup at the hands of Coventry Blaze.

Chuck Weber's side overturned a 3-1 aggregate deficit to move into the semi-finals at Clan's expense on Wednesday, setting up a tie with Cardiff Devils.

And Finnerty today hailed Coventry for their workrate that saw them come out winners. He said: "It was pretty tough to take especially after the start we had. I thought if we scored it would take the wind out of their sails, but it seemed to galvanise them.

"I can't credit that team enough. They were short of bodies, but they out worked us, executed when they had chances and they worked very hard.

"They made life difficult for us and for some reason, we just couldn't get going. It was all about Coventry being very good and us being very average.

"We've got no-one to blame but ourselves and I include myself in that. It's a team loss and a tough lesson to learn.

"We lost out on the opportunity to get closer to a trophy in front of our home crowd. The big thing for us is we've come off an eight-game winning streak.

"Sometimes you need a good kick to realise you're not as good as what people are telling you and it's hurt us pretty hard.

"The secret here is not get too low or too high. There's nothing we can do other than lick our wounds and look ahead to the weekend, starting with the Edinburgh game tomorrow."
