Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli has hinted she is considering a return to professional tennis.

Having provided one of the biggest shocks of recent years by winning the All England Club title in 2013, the Frenchwoman surprised the tennis world again by announcing her retirement less than six weeks later.

Bartoli cited the wear and tear on her body and, after initially saying 'never say never' about a possible comeback, had shot down all talk of her changing her mind.

But on Twitter on Monday night, the 30-year-old wrote: "Coming back or not coming back to £tennis? What do you think?Should I?"

Bartoli quickly threw herself into life after tennis, working in the media at a number of tournaments as well as turning her hand to fashion design.

She returned to Wimbledon last summer and was in tears as she walked onto Centre Court before watching Sabine Lisicki, the player she beat in the 2013 final, fulfil the traditional champion's duty of contesting the first match of the second day.

Bartoli received some advice on Twitter from American great Jimmy Connors, who wrote: "only if you get fit- in shape- and healthy. And commit yourself to getting back to the top. Sounds easy enough!!"

Comebacks in women's tennis are nothing new.

Belgians Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters both had second careers, the latter winning three grand slam titles following her return, while Martina Hingis is currently on her third stint in the professional game.
