Mo Farah would be crazy to go for double gold at this summer's Commonwealth Games, claims running legend Steve Cram.

The two-time Olympic champion came eighth in last Sunday's London Marathon and has pledged to take his time to decide if he will compete in Glasgow.

Farah could opt to focus on defending his European 5000 and 10,000 metres title in Zurich in August.

Cram, who did the European and Commonwealth double in 1982 and 1986, says Farah must guard against burnout.

"It's not hard if you're an 800 and 1500m runner. It is hard if you're a 5000 and 10,000m runner," he said.

"I'd expect all our 800 and 1500 people to do both. The five and 10 you have to be a bit smart. You can't run two marathons in three weeks. Even two 10,000m races will be hard."

TENNIS: David Ferrer claimed a stunning 7-6, 6-4 victory over fellow-Spaniard Rafael Nadal to reach the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.

Ferrer will next face world No.3 and Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, who dismissed Canadian eighth seed Milos Raonic 7-6, 6-2 in his quarter-final.

Former world No.1 Roger Federer, seeded fourth, got off to a sluggish start, but saw off local favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.
