COMMONWEALTH Games badminton silver medallist Kirsty Gilmour has been handed a tough challenge in the draw for the Li-Ning BWF World Championships.

The Scotland star faces a tricky start against German Karin Schnaase in the Ballerup Super Arena in Copenhagen when the seven-day Championships gets under way on August 25.

The two players are 1-1 in head-to-heads but if Gilmour overcomes that hurdle the 20-year-old from Bothwell will have to take on Korean sixth seed Bae Yeon Ju.

Scotland's Commonwealth bronze medallists Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier are 12th seeds in the mixed doubles and they have a first-round bye.

They will then meet the winner of the first-round clash between Americans Phillip Chew and Jamie Subhandi and Russian pair Anatoliy Yartsev and Evgeniya Kosetskaya.

The Worlds are from August 25-31.
