GLASGOW Tigers beat their Sheffield namesakes during an incident-packed meeting at Ashfield.

Three of the home men hit double figures as the visitors lost two of their main men through injury.

The Ashfield side stamped their mark on the meeting through a heat two 5-1 from Kasper Lykke and guest Tom Perry at reserve.

And the theme of heat advantages for Glasgow continued as Sheffield, led by Team GB World Cup star Simon Stead, struggled to recover from the withdrawal of Ty Proctor early on, and then Leigh Lanham after a high-speed fall in heat 12.

It capped what has been a pretty successful few days for Glasgow - who took two league points when drawing at Ipswich on Thursday night, and took a further three today - though a visit to Plymouth on Friday failed to produce anything for the Tigers.

The team's No 1, Kevin Wolbert, said: "I tried a new engine at Ipswich and it worked quite well. In the first heat the referee put me out, but it was a good meeting.

"At Plymouth, I tried an engine, too, and it wasn't good, and I tried another and the back chain came off. In the next heat, I made the start but made a mistake in the second corner, crashed and Rusty (Harrison) went over me - so that was not very nice."

Tigers scorers: Rusty Harrison 14, Theo Pijper 11, Kevin Wolbert 10, Kasper Lykke 9, Tom Perry 6, Anders Thomsen 5.

GRAND PRIX: Lewis Hamilton was left to reflect on arguably one of the greatest drives of his Formula One career, even though victory in a dramatic German Grand Prix gallingly belonged to title rival Nico Rosberg.

Following an accident in qualifying and subsequent five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change due to damage sustained, Hamilton started in a lowly 20th place.

But for only the second time since he arrived in F1 in 2007, the 29-year-old scored a podium finish from a starting position outside the top 10, claiming third, with Williams' Valtteri Bottas runner-up.

It was a bumpy ride for Hamilton, but he held on in an exercise of damage limitation, losing only 10 points to Rosberg who now holds a 14-point cushion with 10 races gone and nine to go.

"I got the job done so I can go away happy knowing I did a good job," he said.

"There are lots of positives for me from this race. I came from near last, so to finish on the podium is quite an achievement."
