Glasgow Tigers' top men led from the front away to Edinburgh - but it wasn't quite enough to take something from the match, writes Peter West.

Kevin Wolbert and Theo Pijper both hit double figures on Friday night for the first time this year to give the Tigers a confidence boost ahead of Sunday's visit of the men from the Capital.

The Ashfield side were already weakened by Danish reserve duo Anders Thomsen and Kasper Lykke having to miss the match for an under-21 meeting in their home country.

Chris Widman and local boy James McBain stood in, but managed just one point each.

Wolbert had not won a race in Glasgow colours in his first three matches, but powered ahead in heat one to beat the Premier League's top rider Craig Cook on his own patch.

The Tigers managed to keep things close until a run of heat victories in heats six, seven and eight took the hosts 12 in front.

However, the Tigers hit back with a 6-3 courtesy of Pijper's tactical ride in heat nine.

Glasgow then managed to draw three heats from the next four to keep the gap to nine - and give themselves a chance of taking an away point from the fixture.

However, Edinburgh pulled away in heats 14 and 15 to ensure Glasgow left their third away League Cup fixture empty-handed.

But three wins and a second from Wolbert and a 14-point haul from Pijper should be cause for optimism for the Tigers when Edinburgh visit in the League Cup on Sunday at Ashfield, tapes up 3pm.
