AARON SUMMERS predicts he will be lifting "plenty of silverware" for Glasgow Tigers after becoming the club's latest signing.

The 26-year-old Australian became an asset of the Premier League side last week when he joined on a full transfer from Redcar Bears.

Now, the former Edinburgh man is aiming to put himself in the spotlight on the Elite and European stages - but not before he's given Glasgow fans some moments to remember after the new season starts in March.

Summers, one of seven riders who will be kick-starting a fresh era for the Tigers under new owners Gerry and Michael Facenna - of Allied Vehicles - said: "Glasgow have been showing interest in me for a little bit, but we've never really spoken about deals.

"But I had been at Redcar for a while and wanted a change to push me further - so got into talks with Glasgow.

"It's awesome to be part of a full transfer. I can't thank the promotion enough for sticking by me as it's taken a lot of work and time to get to this stage.

"The Glasgow fans can expect me to always give 110 per cent and do the best I can for them - and we will be lifting plenty of silverware."

Summers has, in the past, featured in the Elite League with the likes of Coventry. He said: "My ambition is always to up my average and hopefully get the chance to do more Elite League and prove what I can do. I'm also looking into other European meetings I could get into.

"I want to push on this season and put myself out there a bit, and secure a double-up spot in the Elite - whether it be this season or next. But it's just great to be in the Tigers colours permanently."

Although he is Australian, Summers has escaped the visa issues currently affecting a host of his fellow-countrymen who are trying to ride in the UK this season because he also has a British passport.

He has been able to fully prepare for the new campaign at his base near Berwick, and is looking forward to making Ashfield his home track - a place he has fond memories of from his time at Edinburgh.

He added: "I've done plenty of laps round there from my time at Edinburgh. I really enjoy the track and look forward to having it as my home track every week.

"To be honest, my most memorable meeting at Glasgow was when I was a Monarchs reserve. I think I was on a maximum and went through the tapes, so started of 15 metres back - and managed to pass Josh Grajczonek and Lee Dicken to keep my paid maximum.

"I'm doing plenty of fitness work this winter and riding motocross to keep bike-fit and sharp. I will be getting new clutches and carbs, and hopefully an engine or two, so I'm looking for sponsors to help me out.

"I've lost a few from changing clubs and don't really have a main sponsor, so if anyone's interested please get in touch via aaronsummersracing@hotmail.co.uk."
