THEO Pijper hopes the Sheffield track staff get a grip of conditions on Sunday when preparing for the Premier League Riders' Championship.

The Dutchman represents Glasgow Tigers in the showpiece individual event and admits it will be tough against a field packed full of top riders.

But the 34-year-old is desperate to see a grippy Owlerton circuit covered in plenty of dirt to boost his chances of making the championship's final stages.

Pijper, who believes he's in his best form of the season, said: "I've done the event a couple of times in my career but never been super successful. Hopefully this time it will come.

"I feel really good with my racing at the moment. I'm making some good starts. It's going to be hard - I still have a little injury on my hand from last Saturday's long track event in France - but hopefully it will be all right before the weekend.

"Hopefully they prepare some dirt on the track because I like a bit of dirt.

"In the past, when it was quite grippy all the time, it was quite good for me. But the last couple of times I was there it was pretty slick."
