LEWIS HAMILTON took advantage of another mistake by Nico Rosberg to win the Russian Grand Prix and extend his title lead over his team-mate to 17 points.

The one-two finish also secured a first-ever F1 constructors' championship for the pair's Mercedes team.

But celebrations were tempered by thoughts of critically-ill Marussia driver Jules Bianchi, to whom Hamilton dedicated his victory.

Rosberg had made a great start to overtake Hamilton in the run-up to the second turn at the Sochi Autodrom.

But he out-braked himself and flatspotted his tyres, necessitating an immediate pit stop.

That dropped Rosberg to 20th position but, astonishingly, he ran for the remaining 52 laps on the same set of tyres to finish second and keep his title hopes alive.

After being presented with his winner's trophy by Russian president Vladimir Putin, Hamilton admitted his thoughts were with the stricken Bianchi.

The Frenchman is in the Mie General Medical Centre in Yokkaichi, Japan, after suffering brain injuries in a crash with a recovery vehicle at Suzuka last weekend.

Hamilton said: "All week there has been just one person on my mind, and that's Jules.

"Every time I've got in the car this week I have been thinking about him and his family and keeping him in my prayers every day.

"It would be great to dedicate this to Jules and his family. Every bit of positive energy hopefully will help."
