SCOTT HARRISON has revealed that he is banking on youth helping him to what could be the greatest victory of his career.

The former WBO featherweight champion will challenge Liam Walsh for the WBO European title tomorrow night at Wembley Arena, in what will be the biggest test of the 35-year-old's ability to turn back the clock.

Now Harrison has thanked two of the young prodigy's at his father Peter Harrison's Dalmarnock gym for helping him get in the shape to defy his years.

He said: "I appreciate that I am giving nine years away to Walsh and that perhaps boxing styles have changed since I was world champion.

"So my father Peter has had me sparring with two of his outstanding prospects Hugh Gray and Charlie Flynn and it has worked a treat.

"Charlie Flynn has just won the Scottish Amateur lightweight title and will most probably make the Commonwealth games team, while Hugh is unbeaten as a professional and looks like he has a huge future ahead of him.

"These young boys have so much energy and that in turn has only fired me up. The tempo and pace of the sparring has been tremendous and it has given me a new level of sharpness."

However, the former champion has also been honing his fitness levels with lung-bursting running sessions – through the city's Necropolis.

Harrison revealed: "My strength and conditioning coach George Fleming has had me running in the Necropolis every weekend in hour-long sessions and it has been brutal stuff. But I believe it will be worth it."
