Glasgow golfer Barry Hume enjoyed a lucky 13 as he returned to his happy hunting ground of Downfield and stormed through the first round of the Fairstone Scottish Amateur Championship.
The 32-year-old won the national title at the Dundee course back in 2001 and he made his mark again yesterday with a thumping 6 and 5 win over Connor Neil.
Hume's Scottish Championship success 13 years ago came when he was at the peak of his amateur powers but his huge promise did not transfer into the professional ranks.
After a decade of toil, Hume regained his amateur status last year and now runs a US football scholarship recruitment firm with former St Mirren star Ricky Gillies.
The former Scottish Strokeplay champ showed his class yesterday and was five-under for the 13 holes it took him to swat aside Neil.
Hume, who played in two Opens during his professional days, said: "I really enjoy this place. I played in the Boys' Strokeplay here in 1997 and finished third when I was 15. I loved it then and, obviously, I came back for the Scottish Amateur when I was a wee bit older. It just fits my eye.
Williamwood teen George Burns beat Kenny Gunnyeon 4 and 3. But Cawder's Jamie Savage, the Irish Open champion, fell at the first hurdle after losing 3 and 2 to Carnoustie's Daniel Elder.
