RUSSELL KNOX regained his PGA Tour card at Sawgrass on Sunday night with a share of sixth place in the Web.com Tour Championship.

With a re-jigged format that places more emphasis on the second-tier tour and rewards the leading 25 players on the final money list with full playing rights for the PGA circuit, the Inverness exile did enough to move up into 20th and rejoin his fellow Scot, Martin Laird, at the top table.

Knox, who lost his card at the end of the 2012 campaign, opted to juggle competition on both the PGA Tour and the Web.com Tour this season.

With his category, he was always going to earn a handful of starts on the main tour but, as can often be the case for those straddling two circuits, there was a danger that he may not have made an impact on either of them.

The 28-year-old is a reach-out-and-grab-it kind of fella, though. When opportunity knocked for Knox, he wasn't going to turn anything away.

"I had people telling me I should have played a full Web.com Tour schedule, and if I had, I would have made the top-25 easily," admitted the Jacksonville resident, whose eventful campaign included a magical 59 in the second round of the Albertsons Boise Open in July.

"But I couldn't take the chance of not playing a tour event when I could. You can't turn down a chance to play on the PGA Tour and you can never tell when you'll have one of those special weeks."
