GLASGOW Tigers face an uphill battle to remain in the Knock Out Cup after losing their quarter-final first leg at Newcastle.
The Diamonds were 53-37 winners despite the visitors having led the match early on.
Heat wins from Theo Pijper, Kasper Lykke and Tero Aarnio in the opening races gave the Ashfield men plenty of hope.
But they failed to record a single further heat win and again lacked serious firepower at the top end of the team.
Captain Pijper scored well with 11, followed by nine from Lykke and seven from Aarnio, but Kevin Wolbert scored just four and Victor Palovaara continued to find his introduction to British speedway tough with a three-point haul. Mason Campton scored two while guesting at reserve.
Glasgow have a break this Sunday with the Premier League Riders' Championship taking place at Sheffield - at which they'll be represented by Pijper - before attempting to overhaul the Diamonds on September 28 in the return leg.
